Not that I have any impact on the this, but can it please be in January, as I'll have a better chance of affording it then, and I've promised people I'll be at this.

The plan is January (2nd or 3rd) weekend.
I actually am just waiting on confirmation from a couple of hotels.

Chris, I am thinking of Judging this if you need me. Fingers crossed I will be in Sydney mid-december to sit the lvl 2 test. Let me know if you do want the help. If not I will just be forced to teach those victorians how we South Aussies play this game.......full contact Vs.......yeah baby!!!!

I will be doing a call for judges around end of November for it via direct email/post here.
I think we will need about 3 judges in addition to the head judge (it might be Alex Charsky again or a local depends on if we get any level 3's in the meantime).
Thanks,
Matt

Is there any chance at all of this being held before GenCon SoCal. Any money winners could potentially make the PC Anaheim.

Hi Guys,
Although I'm not privvy to all the details yet, I believe the Melboune 10K event will be held on January 9th at Crown Casino. This is a fantastic venue very easy to get to in Melbourne, and it lends itself to extra curricular activity that I seek out on away trips. I'm also good friends with 3 babes who live diametrically opposite Crown, so I propose that Zed makes this a 7 day event.
Hope this helps peoples travel arrangements, I'm sure Zed will post a more thorough announcement shortly.
Cheers

Is there any chance that we'll see the split Marvel DC format at this or Auckland 10K? It just sounds like a cool idea. Playing either mono-marvel or mon-DC and then the winners of each playing off in the final.

Having earnt a portion of the $500US from yesterday's PCQ, I'm now fully intent on coming to Melbourne for the $10k.
Has anyone started looking at budget accomodation yet, or are their deals in place with hotels for the respective venues?

Nathan, I wouldn't expect to have the money by then if I were you. I still haven't got mine from the first Brisbane PCQ, and once you do get it, it takes a month to clear.

Hey Raider, was the Brisbane PCQ u are referring to the one that was held at Supernova?
If so, did you win it in the constructed portion or the sealed portion?
TheCrimsonScribe

It is indeed the Supernova PCQ that he is refering to, and he won the sealed portion.

Anyone found out what the special price is for quoting Upper Deck?
JLA
Nov 29 2004, 09:02 AM
Actually I called them yesterday and it seems like although Upperdeck is a company that the hotel is aware of having function rooms for them. There is no speical room rates arranged for participants. Turns out a twinshare room would cost over $300 with breakfast thrown in and parking is $20 a day.
They also directed me to their sister hotel..which was close by and only about $50 cheaper.
Maybe I didnt speak with the right person but it seems kind of excessive.
Anyone else found any reasonable alternatives in terms of price and location?
ssteven
Nov 29 2004, 09:18 AM
Well, given most of us will be travelling for the weekend, which means 1 day at Card Heaven and 1 day at the $10k, and since those two places are nowhere near each other, might as well just stay in the city somewhere.
The Victoria Hotel is reasonably priced, though a bit of a hole - I think it's about $80 a room - there is also a plethora of quite good hotels in the $120/night range around the CBD.
TheCrimsonScribe
Nov 29 2004, 09:40 AM
I also heard on the grape vine that the WSOP is in Melbourne the very same weekend and they apparently do have a deal with Crown Towers (or whatever it's called) that is better than UDE's.
Hernando
Nov 29 2004, 01:32 PM
Firstly, you will have to play poker at Crown to get that rate.
Secondly, for those that are panicking, don't worry - it's not a WSOP event.
If anyone is interested, Crown thinks they're going to fill the lockout number of 300, which has an AU$10k buyin (about US$7,850).
Nathan, you're an idiot....
TheCrimsonScribe
Nov 29 2004, 01:44 PM
Okay, I realise that you'd have to play poker to get those rates, I'm not that stupid. I was told it was a WSOP Qualifier, or at least that there would be qualifiers with a $50 buy-in.
(I know nothing about poker and the WSOP specifically, just repeating what I was told)
kman
Nov 29 2004, 01:47 PM
Unless you want to pay a real premium, I would not stay at Crown. There a cheaper, reasonable options a plenty. Or, if like me you don't mind slumming it there are much cheaper options.
Card Heaven is easy to get to on public transport on the Saturday.
Matt
Nov 29 2004, 02:13 PM
For people travelling in 3's or 4's, you can usually book a 2 bedroom apartment around the St Kilda area (very close to the city) for between 90-120/night which works out nice and cheap when split.
If anyone finds some cheap prices for a 3 bed hotel lmk.

how big is the local scene in Melbourne?
wondering roughly how many local players will be attending.

Nov 29 2004, 04:01 PM
The local scene is a reasonable size. We have go in the high 20's (I think) to 1 or 2 PCQ's. We got more than Sydney to the last lot

. Hard to say how many to expect. There are a few different crowds. I would hope for around 50 from Melbourne alone, plus travellers. Maybe around 80-100 again? It is in the holiday season though, so that may help, or hinder.
Matt
Nov 29 2004, 05:36 PM
I think less will be there then Sydney. 60-70 is my guess, but I only thought Sydney would get 50 so who knows!
