For money:
Mobilize
Level 12 Intelligence
Need for Speed
For winning games:
A solid 4 drop
A solid atk pump
A solid def pump

what's with all of the complaining about 4's? they just need to be prioritised more.
TheDarkAlliance
Jan 23 2007, 07:25 PM
They need to be prioritised as much in this set as plot twists needed to be in MOS. It takes out any skill in first picks when you absolutely HAVE to pick a 4 drop. Theres no diversity or versatility, you don't have a choice. Its ridiculous.
Note I haven't deleted your post ksap.

Jan 23 2007, 07:35 PM
lol. it really isn't that cut'n'dry as you HAVE to 1st pick a 4, if it was, I wouldn't like this set at all for ltd. so far i don't feel comfortable drafting it though, and the 4's definitely play a part in this.
The Domination
Jan 23 2007, 09:58 PM
then you better draft more with it as the draft set for PC is legions

Jan 24 2007, 12:13 AM
I have not had problems with 4's yet. At all.
I have passed (good) 4's early as well, so I don't think that you have to pick them over everything.
Once I drafted only one 5 in a curve deck. I won that draft.

Though if Luke had drawn a little better, things may have been different.

Darkseid, Apokoliptian Oppressor
Not sure on the other.

director bones, he's great but considering he's a 2 drop, i wouldn't put him into first priority.

TDA makes a good point - once people start to think that a set is short of something the reality doesn't matter. In MOS everyone believed that plot twists needed to be drafted highly which made them even more of a scarce commodity mid tolate pack. Likewise in Legions. After a couple of drafts where we all sat around complaining that we only got 1-2 4 drops each, we all started to make them a higher priority thereby making the scarcity perminant. Not only that but a couple of the 4 drops (eg Darkseid) and amongst the best cards in the set reinforcing the seeming scarcity.
Undead Knight
Jan 24 2007, 11:06 PM
I've wheeled a 4 drop when 3 other people are drafting the same deck as me. Good Times.
4-Drops are definitely high picks but if you see a card like Science Police Central, Legion of the Damned, Joining the Darkseid or Cyborg (5) take it over them. Always.

To paraphrase the immortal Ice-T, in the seminal track KKK Bitch, from the album, Body Count (1992)
So what we really tryin' to say is VS drafters loves
four drops. We love Future Foes, Darkseid's Elite, Teen Titans,
it really don't matter. If you from JSA, and you got a resource cost of four,
we will play you. You know, that's all we're sayin', word.

the 'let's complain about 4 drops' bandwagon is fit to burst. big yoda speaks truth on the matter. really, i think that it makes for a more interesting draft.
on topic, kara zor el 7 is pretty hawt. need for speed is good also. darksied 4 is a wall.... a lot of the pumps are decent

superboy 4drop is pretty good
good effect, range, flight, substitute, titans and legions
this card pretty much goes well in any deck
science police central
+2 atk to all your guys with cosmic counters is insane
especially when you draft like 7 legion 2 drops.
furnace of apocalypes
free card draw is good always good at the cost of substituting
a guy. helps out a lot against foes.
btw this is only for draft.

I'll take Timber Wolf over any 4-drop. A couple of them usually enables me to cover whatever hole is left in my deck (and allow me to pick up and utilise late Legion of Super Pets). Note that DE and FF have been overfdrafted whenever I've drafted - not often in Brisbane - making the cosmic boost pretty easy to organise.

Yeah, I went Legionnaires/Future Foes the last time. 7 drop legionnaire was the bomb.

Do you think it's possible to succeed with an off curve draft deck thought for DLS?
To me, off curve is about gaining advantage by planning on dropping multiple guys out in a turn, usually for several turns in a row. Usually due to the presence of a global attack pump (TNB BBB, FoE, etc). I'm not even sure that Kree is so much an off curve deck as an abuse of an abusive ability deck...
Anyway, I don't see any off curve decks in Legions unless you can slam a rare (Science Police Central) in the first few packs. I like Timber Wolf, though, for several reasons:
1. He covers all drops from two onwards, so I can get away better with any holes higher up in the curve that I may have.
2. As he can cover all the drops, I can make room for an extra PT/Location if I have the card pool for it (generally if I grab two Wolves I'll cut my character count by one for an additional PT/Location if it's good enough).
3. Legion of Super Pets and Legion World are powerful but narrow use commons that Timber Wolf and a few other characters enable. You can get them late, they'll get in the deck and win you games.
The above team attack cards are powerful (I've won games on turn 5 on the back of them) but unlike BBB/FoE they don't encourage multiple little drops, just add to the occasional team attack. Of course, with everyone having flight Legion are good at team attacking. Using them is about getting the right cards, which to me are:
1. Timber Wolf
2. Kid Quantum (drop for free to enable a team attack on a larger drop in the mid-late game).
3. Phantom Girl (I go through a lot of texta with this set. Anyway, she's the best two drop on turn 2 - her cosmic surge fuels later Legion cards and being concealed means she'll survive to enable team attacks on later turns, not to mention that her ability actually wrecks some draft decks).
So no, I don't feel it's an off curve deck, as TW aside I want to hit curve every turn. But it is a deck that makes use of free characters/resource points to enable some very strong but narrow cards.

Decipher have done that one before. Name a screw up possible in a CCG and there's a pritty good chance they'll have managed it in atleast one of their games.
Lurtz's sword (rare) could only play on Lurtz (rare) who was in a different set. I managed to pull that off in limited (player's choice sealed) once but it'd normally get stuck in your hand and make you draw one less card a turn.

Well in MTU there is Dr Doom - I was really excited that there was to be another Doom, until I saw him:
Cost: 5 Dr. Doom, Just Reward
Team: Underworld, Doom
ATK: 9
DEF: 9
Dual Loyalty
Whenever a character you control becomes powered-up, Dr. Doom gets +1/+1 this turn.
Doom sacrificed Valeria to Haazareth in exchange for power - a bargain that landed him in Hell.
MTU-193 Illustrator: Jim Cheung Rare
Dual Loyalty when Doom isn't even a team in this set! I guess there may be some mathematically possible way to recruit him but seriously...

Recruiting Doom is easy, just discard him to Luke Cage, Neighborhood Watch on turn 3, then use one of the various means of returning him to your hand (Black Rose, Roxanne Simpson, The Dark Dimension, Hellstorm, Son of Satan or Dimensional Rift) to recruit Doom on turn 5.
What I want to know is how can we use Monster Island in Limited?
