Not long to go and I'm starting to get really excited about this event. I know I have no hope of going well but it will be a great opportunity to catch up with some of you guys off the forums from interstate!

So has everyone decided on their deck yet?

So much to do on the Sunday as well with WOS, PCQ and First Edition Marvel draft.
TheCrimsonScribe
Hey, at least with current speculation, you can say you made the Top64 - which to anyone in MtG would sound like a Day 2 performance.

Ray WOWsais
i'm with you on this one paul, biggest weekend of VS thus far, come on sydney players, keep the bling in our town!

i think everyone knows what i'm playing, i'm interested in what other players are thinkin of playing and if the 1 game match influenced their choices.

Arkham?
Ray WOWsais
lol, yeah that's it Arkham, i'm playing Arkham in 10k, I guess that disproves my theory about everyone knowing what deck i'm playing.
Ike E Bear
Depending on getting certain cards I'll either be playing ...
Arkham, Titans or Knights.
I'm necessarily restricted to largely DC decks, as I didn't buy very much Marvel Origins due to other things being on my plate recently.
I want to Arkham and think I have most of the cards now.
Titans seems like a safer bet, but they aren't completely retarded as some people think. They do have decent consistency, which will help in the one-game format. I'm missing two Garths for this deck, though and don't like my chances of finding them anyways.
The Knights might be a surprise choice for the event. Bat-Signal provides great character tutoring and they have decent bashers along the curve. Their main drawback is loyalty and lack of range/flight. Fizzle is obviously a huge part of this deck. I still like the idea of a Cops deck as opposed to a curve deck, but the one-game format would scare me out of that option right now.
That's my two cents.
I'm bursting out of my skin with excitement.
See you guys there.

Looking so forward to it I cannot begin to put in into words. I'm also really looking forward to meeting all of you from the forums. It's going to be huge!

I think ppl are gonna be surprised at some of the decks that perform well on the day.
I am not joking when I say don't underestimate any DC decks such as:
TT,GK, and especially AI.
What I really like about the current VS metagame is that IMO just about any team (except for Xmen and Fearsome 5) deck has a chance of making it to a top8 slot.
It all comes down to tweaking the deck for the field and playing the deck without making mistakes.
I mean, who would have expected Mutant Nation and GK to come at the top of the practice event?
So play the deck you understand/enjoy the most as opposed to playing what ppl "think" is the best deck.

Chances are that I'll be playing a DC deck on the day- not sure which one. This is not because I have DC cards only - I actually could make CE, doom, WV or FF but I prefer DC teams over marvel teams atm.

Im busting out the secret tech for Sydney ...
I will be playing 60 cards ... IN SLIPS!
Yep, you read it here first ... I will be using Slips!

blink.gif

Of course, like the secret keel, the slips will remained cloaked until gametime.

You're wearing a slip? What the heck? Are you hot? I mean you better have good legs or at least be a lady.

Yeah, I'm gonna use a deck too.
Vanwolfgang
Well, thanks to Cool Zero, I can fulfill my destiny and play Xmen in the form of Mutant Nation. I was playing it yesterday and I love the deck!!

The Legend in a slip dress....

That would something to see indeed.

Funniest thing I have heard all week!

Why tell people what your going to play? it just gives them an advantage over you, especially with the 1 game match rule.

And as for the practice event... there is no way im calling that a practice event. I paid $10 for 6 play test games and a pack of DC which I got a hidden surveilence out of. I can do that on my own time for $6.

Money aside, any testing is good testing, and I envision not many magic drafts this week @ the place to play. It use to be you could get 9 drafts in a night... now your lucky to get 2... sigh

By all means, everybody post what they're going to play... it helps me out.

! exclaimation marks just make you sound over-eager ! like your in a cheerleading competition! Right On! OK! random thoughts

I am very happy to announce that I am playing a four way team up between Knights, Titans, LoA, and Inmates!!! That way I get to use my best drop in each slot!!!!!!

I know people are saying how scouting will play a big part in this event but it wont mean squat if they dont win the initiative roll or PSR (which I refuse to play).

Sure its nice to know what people are playing but it will still come down to player skill and draws and of course luck.
TheDarkKnightReturns
Whilst I agree that scouting always helps, (and I am not trying to start a discussion here so pls don't reply to the following) I think it won't really affect matchups at the 10k event, so I wouldn't worry about ppl knowing what deck I am playing.
My reasoning is that even if ppl scout, as long as the field is diverse, scouting won't really affect ppl's decisions on what deck to play and what strategy to use.

Example Scenario:
I turn up to the 10k event early with a deck that has a bad matchup against BB and find out that some of the pros are playing BB.
Under the old format of 3 games per round, I would play less rounds than the current system AND bad matchups are more important (because of best of 3 games, bad luck has less influence) so the decks played by experienced players would be more important than those played by the rest of the field. In this case I would have to watch out for BB and reconsider my choice of deck or modify it. But since more rounds are played in the new format, there's less chance of me coming up against the same deck and losing a bad matchup isn't as much of a problem because there will be more rounds played against other decks (unless EVERYONE is playing the same deck).

I believe the field at the 10k event will be diverse (please prove me right on this one ppl). If VanWolfGang was brave enough to turn up to the event with a Mutant Nation deck (j/king, I know it's a good deck), and I "scouted" his deck before deck rego, then I'd be silly to actually modify my deck to hate his or play a different deck because it would most likely weaken my deck against a lot of other matchups or make it less consistent at what it does best. And my knowing that he is playing Mutant Nation before we get paired up doesn't really help because any player can usually figure out what their opponent is playing during the first 3 turns of a game.

One last point (yeah yeah I know, enough already), is that scouting works best for games such as (pls don't kill me for mentioning this) MTG because of the chance to change your sideboard to hate particular decks which you see on the day. There is no sideboard in VS and putting hate maindeck for 1 particular deck is a pretty bad idea unless you are certain that the majority of your opponents will be playing that deck (in which case serves THEM right for being netdecking whore).

'Nuff said.

Ike E Bear
I think ScottS's point is that scouting will help a player decide on which initiative to take in a given match-up where they know what deck their opponent is playing.
This doesn't worry me too much because I figure my deck will stick out like dogs' balls anyway and I can't see how knowing what I'm playing will effect my opponent's initiative choice.
But hey, I could be wrong.
For those reasons, though, I fully respect people's decision to play their cards close to their chest ... I just don't think it'll work for long past round two if that long.
EggNet
True the 10K event is on the horizon, but the thing that is getting me excited is the WOS Sneak Peek! Just looking at the preview cards has gotten me ready to rumble. I can't wait to get my hands on some of these cards!

Or not even that long if they are play testing at the warm up the night before.

Very true.

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be fun if we all dressed up as our favourite super hero!!

You could really distract your opponent if you were dressed up as spiderman.

Im thinking youll distract them more if you dressed as Wonder Woman.

Or go naked, spraying yourself Silver and carry in a surfboard.

And the time we had a learn to play Xena-warrior princess day and...
Or the time we had Pokemon tournament and...
Or the time we ran a Lord of the rings and he came dressed normally but everyone though he was Frodo and...

It's gotten to the stage where I'm relieved that Chris is dressed as a wrestler when I come in of a morning. The last straw was when we did a Saddle Club demo and he came as one of those pantomime horses, but there was only him in the suit.

He raised some eyebrows at the RSL that night when we went for a beer after work.

Vanwolfgang, being a big X-Men fan you should consider them as your dress up theme. I think you would REALLY distract your opponent if you dressed up as Psylocke.

Of course, when I say "distract", I mean "disturb" and when I say "opponent", I mean your "fiance". SNIKT!

holycow said he was going to dress up as Chow Yun Fat from Bulletproof Monk. If not, he said he would go as a hobo.
Ike E Bear
I'm probably hairy enough to do Beast *considering how much blue dye would be needed for a full body job*.

Edit: I'm sooooo excited I'm wriggling around on my chair (probably shouldn't have drunk that strong espesso this morning). I haven't thought about work in days ... this is bad.
