Now that I am coming down I was wondering if there is anywhere to play VS on Friday night in Sydney. Either get some last minute playtesting in, or maybe a draft?

Sydney Games Centre usually run a small constructed event Friday nights. Failing that there are usually people playing casual games

Actually I talked to Chris and Kieren (at SGC) and apparently they are going to run a proper VS tournament on the Friday night as a precursor to the $10k event. I'll ask them to post up the details in this forum

We're staying at the Mercure but would love to play in the Friday night tournament. Is the SGC far from the Mercure? And how would some-budget conscious Kiwis get there from the Mercure?

Walk over to Central Station and catch a train. SGC is a quick walk up the road for the Burwood station. My friends and I did this on the Thursday before last years GP.

Thanks ... how about catching a cab from the Mercure? How much would that set us back?
I ask 'cause we get into Sydney at 5:30pm and might be pushing it to get to the SGC in time for a 6:30 rego .... plus we might need a cab back if the trains aren't running.

I'm from Brisbane, so I have no idea on a cab - but it was "about" 6 stops from Central if I remember correctly - so probably quite a bit.
-Edit- There are several trains from Central between 5:30pm and 6:00pm that will get you to Burwood before the 6:30pm rego. Just make sure to take the "Inner West" line instead of the "South" line as it doesn't seem to stop at Burwood at that time of night. If you want more information go to
CityRail's Website.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say a cab from the city to Burwood would set you back around $20-25.
On Friday night at 5:30PM it's probably double that.
Sydney traffic is a bitch.

My advice would be to catch a train there and then a cab back.

Seriously.
Friday night in Sydney is going to be a beating - catch the train.
It's fast, reliable and safe.
Cab/bus it back if you want.
Im going to be at the Mercure on Friday night around 630pm (ish) setting up.

So if 9 News reports at Batmobile missing from MovieWorld on Friday night, we've got a good guess where it'll be ...
