Full Version: SCOOP: Invites for Ages

After speaking with Mr. Zandtides he has told me that the invites from pcqs will last for an entire season (1 year)

meaning you don't have to go to the first pc after winning the pcq. You have an entire year to use your invite (nb: 1 invite for 1 pc, not 1 invite for every pc for a year)

Also I found out that the american PCQ's are for only $250 whereas ours are for $500! We have further to go and thus are entitled to more money....

...now thats really good, it's just a shame it costs $2100 to fly

Cool News though! thanks Chris ph34r.gif

That is great news!

Personally, i had become very cynical with the direction Hasbro had taken with MTG tournament play, particularly given how successful (in $$$ terms) the game had become.

The entire reason for playing PCQ/PTQ is to qualify for the subsequent title (correct me if im wron but isnt that what the initials stand for?). As someone who has been lucky enough to travel overseas to play MTG (due to cheap flights), i can say it is a shame more Australians haven't been able to experience the same thing. While it aint all peaches and cream, it is definitely worth doing at least once.

Personally i think it would be great if the PCQ 1st prize was just a return ticket to the event. Obviously less people would play then but it would be great if it was money or the ticket. Being able to extend the invite is great as well, as then you can got to a PC with your friends, After going to two MTG PT's this yr, i can say the Amsterdam tourney, where many .au players played, as opposed to the San Diego PT, where no other .au players played (im sorry Ben u definitely do not count as .au out of the country) was infinitely more fun. Stress infinitely. Ok Amsterdam too lol.

ssteven
While this is fantastic, I'm now slightly miffed that I gave up the slot at PCQ: Gamescape - I'm sure I could have made it to ONE of the PC's this year somewhere
TheCrimsonScribe
I knew about this last week. I saw it posted on the VsSystem website and so assumed it was comon knowledge.

It is defintely a great deal, and I'm sure that if you proven capable of winning one PCQ alrady you could easily win another, because if we do end up with a stop on the circuit, I'm sure everyone will be chasing the invites.
Cool Zero
Oh well Scott, you'll just have to win another one of the two coming up before the $10,000 tourney =)
Luke
Toybe isnt going to Gencon now either so he wont be using the invite ;[
ssteven
Great. That's great. And I actually coulda went. Great.
Cool Zero
You'll just have to win one of the next two pcqs... what I'd like to know is... if there are multiple PC's in a season, does this mean that the spot wont go down to the next person if the winner is already qualified...makes you think?

ph34r.gif
Scott
ando
I wasn't aware we needed an invite to attend this event! What do I need to do to qualify, since winning a PCQ might be slightly out of my league at this particular time...?
Cool Zero
Allay your fears ando, we were referencing the PC's that are being held in the US that are for $250,000 ea. This forum is about the $10,000 touneys coming up in Sydney and such, so the mistake is understanfable biggrin.gif

Scott
ando
$250,000! WHOA!

Sign my scary ass up!
Cool Zero
that, I'm afraid is one you have to qualify for... there are two PCQ's in Sydney one this weekend and then one two weeks from then... come up and try your luck biggrin.gif

An earlier question was:
... what I'd like to know is... if there are multiple PC's in a season, does this mean that the spot wont go down to the next person if the winner is already qualified...

This exerpt from:
http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/op/10k/
If a player with a Pro Circuit invitation places in the top 10 of a $10K tournament, the Pro Circuit invitation will automatically pass down to the next player without an invitation. Spots are never wasted!

Obviously the 10k events are different to the PCQs, but from what they say, I get the impression that UDE will always pass the invite down to the first player WITHOUT a current invitation (as they said, spots are never wasted)!

Considering i now have PC qualifications, and aspirations for that matter, does anyone know when the next few PC's will be held. I am looking to go between Nov-Feb so .au get your asses into gear and come with me!
TheCrimsonScribe
The next Pro Circuit event is being held at Gen Con So-Cal from December 2nd to 5th.

Sounds about perfect for your aspirations.
ssteven
Hmm, but what if you actually want to go to more than one PC in a season? If I win 2 PCQ's can I elect to keep both slots? Sounds like there could be some issues.

And December sounds doable - just need to qualify now smile.gif
Uly
At this point i would say i am 75% sure i will go in December. Post here if u are q-ed and interested.
ssteven
Being in SoCal makes it a lot easier (and cheaper and quicker) to get to from AUS - you can get to LA for about 12-1300 if you book in advance and go no frills etc. If enough Aussies go, accom can be arranged etc. I mean some people here have already won that much at PCQ's so some of us should be able to swing it I reckon
Uly
This issue has been resolved here:

A much better qualification system than MTG in my eyes.
TheCrimsonScribe
That systems is fantastic - of course it means that if there is going to be a "PotY" race, they'll something else to calculate it on.
Psyclic
I think that is a great idea!
Now all I need to do is play in a few PCQ's and I'll be right smile.gif
Uly
The PotY race could be diifcult to monitor considering you can only have a maximum of 50PC points at one time.
Kongy
So if you have more than 20 credits you aren't allowed to play in the PCQ's is that correct? It doesn't really make sense.
TheCrimsonScribe
That is correct.

Keeps the players that are already qualified from hogging the invites - seeing as they don't pass down in any fashion.

Damn. If I can just qualify and get a wee bit more $. I'm there. Why didn't I take a slot earlier?! Oh well, I guess I'll be fighting Scott for one this weekend.

Face Front, True Believers! And ssteven.
Cool Zero
Add me to the list of ppl going in december... I want to book as soon as humanly possible though cause i wont be going if i have to pay full fare...

Luke... you've come second in two PCQs that entitles you to 10 credit points and a place on the PC.
ssteven
The constructed spot is mine! lol

Yeah so... uhhh, can I borrow a deck again Smith? smile.gif

The limited spot is mine!
Vanwolfgang
Hmm, I should be able to go if I can qualify, it will only be a few weeks after the honeymoon but what the hell smile.gif
Cool Zero
that's dedication Paul

Scott, don't you think Paul will have a constructed deck for you? I can loan you cards help you finish off a deck, but as for giving you a whole deck... we'll see what Paul has biggrin.gif

ph34r.gif
Scott
ssteven
heh heh - uhh. no. We don't have enough relevant cards to build one deck much less two smile.gif You lending bro to someone else ay? smile.gif I do have 1 x foil set from Xu now but, so I guess i have at least 1 of everyhing
Cool Zero
lol, i don;t mind so much as you have bought quite a bit as well as contributing to VS in general. It's just when people don't put any money or anything into it and then expect to borrow decks off me while i spend all of my money to get it kind of pisses me off. I'll loan you the deck Scott, just don't want a sign on my back saying "Mooch off me it's easy" rolleyes.gif

ph34r.gif
Scott
ssteven
Hahaha I think you used to have that sign on you for MTG and people def took advantage of it. But yeah I definitely know what you mean. I'm debating whether or not I go for playsets of all the relevant cards or not. Anyway this is a different topic smile.gif
