by Enchante Chang So what do you know, from 14 uniques to 32. Now that is quite a jump. What am I talking about? Who am I? Well My Name is Enchante Chang and I brought you such installments such as VS Across the Tasman. And what I am talking about is the number of people that came to my Sneak Peek. On Sunday the 6th of Feb I held the Marvel Knights Sneak Peek at Pioneer Woman’s Hall. The Flight Registration started at a staggering 12.30pm cause I couldn’t book the venue anytime sooner, but as it turned out it was great, I could go have brekky and sleep in at the same time, as I am sure others did too! When I arrived at the Venue to start setting up, there were already a ton of people there, so rabid these guys are. It seemed like 25 people there and I was already so happy about it. Packs were cracked at 1.30pm and Rnd 1 started at 2.30pm. In the End it was 32 people who showed up, with 7 Rnds of Electra taking out your 6-drop and Reaper taking out your 5 drop! Now the funny situation is, I only had 24 Sneak Peek cards, and I was like hmmm I thought I had product for 32. Not until I rang Chris and told him I Sold out and he was like you got 24 players?!?! I was like umm no… I got 32players. After the conversation I realized that I only had enough product for 24 players and it was why I only had 24 sneak peek cards and why prizes seemed so thin. Nether the less I was prepared, stretched the Marvel Knights to 32 players and had my reserve box’s and cracked them open to supply more prizes for everyone. Rnd 1 had started and I noticed already that there was the gamer geek
smell seeping across the room, time to open windows and sell cold drinks
so the people stop sweating so much. (note to all T/O’s Fan are
great) In the End Michael Woodhall was the Winner, undefeated after 7 rounds! ![]() Everyone went home with at least an each booster home, and I think everyone was happy with what they got and how the tournament went Now for some useful information for you Aussies that are coming to Auckland 10k, here is what I think are the top players around New Zealand, and maybe you have to watch out for them when you sit across the table. Introducing Auckland’s First VS family! Michael Woodhall, Matthew Woodhall, Obaida Ali and Umar Ali. ![]()
These guys have been playing since the dawn of VS and were all ex-yugioh players. Umar was Ranked #1 in New Zealand before he retired as the champ and moved to VS. Was it worth it? In only the 2nd PCQ he won the Sealed Event proving that his conversion to VS was a worth while one. Obaida Ali has not had any big wins as of yet, but he has won a Sneak Peek and in my opinion the most consistent player in Auckland, always near the top of the rank but never 1st place. You could say he is like the Phil Mickelson of VS (before he won his major of course). Michael Woodhall, Mr.Always Laughing and Having Fun, he had never won anything before this weeks Sneak Peek. And even though it’s just a Sneak Peek, This is the same format as Auckland 10k, Marvel Knights Sealed. He went through 7 Rounds Undefeated and most likely stepped up to prove himself. Matthew Woodhall, Michael’s younger brother. He has come 2nd twice in two constructed PCQ’s, but the thing is he is only 16 and has much more learning to do, but when you are in a family who all just love VS and play competitively, how could you not get better? James White, Hemi-Ma, Premier T/O for MTG, Husband,
GC, My friend ![]() Shaun Hayward While not having played for too long, Shaun has become a great VS player very quickly. He is also a MTG player and has proven to be talented in both games. Shaun came 2nd at the Sneak Peek with 6 wins and his only lost at the hands of the eventual winner, Michael Woodhall. Latest achievements? Won the Pre-lease for Betrayer of Kamigawa, and made money at GP Brisbane. ![]() Brenton Cumberpatch, Loving Husband, Proudest Father, Premier T/O for Auckland, GC, My Friend. Brenton has loved this game ever since it came out, he was the one that got James White and me into this game. I would say that on the PCQ Auckland circuit he has had the most success, 1st in a PCQ, and 2nd in another with top 8’s to boot. His Greatest Achievements is outside of VS though, He along with James White has made their company Saltydog the biggest it has ever been, and I am sure it will even topple Australia’s efforts, with a mind blowing 400 people for pre-release at Champions of Kamigawa. To be successful at something you have to be good at it and have intelligence to back it. This proves he has more than half a brain and he can apply this to VS. Watch out. ![]() Glenn Patel Iain Kenderdine ![]() Gene Brumby, Genis, Geezer, Dog, Gangster, Premier T/O
of Wellington, GC, My Friend ![]() Enchante Chang, Head Tournament Organizer for Auckland,
Your worst Nightmare ![]() I think that Because of positive results around New Zealand and there is another road bump in PCQ Auckland and Wellington. I am expecting Auckland 10k to be very successful and it will put New Zealand on the Map. Do you want to be part of something new? First ever Sealed 10k? I look forward to seeing you all again in 2 months time, until then, I hope you enjoyed the read and had some laughs along the way. Until next time VS fans, same VS time, same VS channel. ![]()
